Our Program

Objective:

The Martial Science Program at Community High School is a means to reach the students curiosity, perseverance, and determination and to mold it in a productive manner. Using Karate/Martial Arts, we can equip the students with life skills and help train them to over-come their limitations. The Martial Science Program teaches respect and courtesy, as well as self-defense techniques. The Program will help aid in the building of self-confidence and direction. We encourage the student to study, think, and question, and gain a real appreciation for their potential. A vital element of the Martial Science Program is discipline. The principals and values of discipline are embodied in the required dedication, perseverance, determination, self-control, concentration, and respect. Earnest practice under a dedicated and proficient teacher is the key to successful training and a successful life.


The Martial Science Program teaches the art of self-defense and sport. The program will consist of hand techniques and feet techniques. When beginning the program the student will learn basic stances, punches, kicks, and blocks. We will work on improving balance, muscle control, eye-body co-ordination, timing, speed, and power. All techniques are placed into practical application.


Sekkinsen Goshin-Jitsu

Sekkinsen Goshin-Jitsu mean (The Art of Close Quarter Self-Defense), is a simple system to learn. With crime at it all time high the only way to give your self the edge is to be prepared. With the Sekkinsen Goshin-Jitsu system not only will you learn self-defense but you will learn tips on how to be aware of your surroundings. Some of the techniques are listed below.

Our Belt System:
  • White- 0-4
  • Orange 4-8
  • Green 8-16
  • Brown 16-24
  • Black 24-28
  • All Rank after Black Belt will based on time in grade with regular practice, minimum time in grade is 2 years.



Fundamentals of Sekkinsen Goshin-Jitsu

Rolling/falling
Rolling and falling are fundamental skills and are a part of every class including forward shoulder rolls (off both sides), break falls (both sides), front-fall, back-fall, side-fall, flip

Stances & footwork
Stances and footwork are of boxing and traditional martial arts.

Hand strikes
The uppercut and hook are effective close-range boxing punches and are an important part of Sekkinsen Goshin-Jitsu as well as the jab and cross. Elbow strikes are practiced going across to the face, up under the chin, and down on the chest.

Kicks
There is a preference in Sekkinsen Goshin-Jitsu for simple low-to-mid-level kicks, the most common are the front kick , roundhouse, the side kick, and Muay Thai-style leg kicks. Knee-strikes are used in close-range techniques.

The Jujutsu of Sekkinsen Goshin-Jitsu
Techniques used as a part of Sekkinsen Goshin-Jitsu include joint locks such as wrist locks, elbow locks, Chokeholds. Sweeps, reaps or Trips and throws are also a part of the training regimen. Also with the fundamentals of the grappling (e.g., guard position, side control, mount position, back) Sekkinsen Goshin-Jitsuu is well suited for the Street.

Weapons Defense
Sekkinsen Goshin-Jitsu emphasizes modern-weapons defense, such as guns, knives, bats, and chains. We will how every review traditional weapons as well (Sword, Rope, Nunchucka, and the Bo).

Self Defense is 90% mental and 10% physical.
